Preference for citizens’ establishing a public general hospital in Ulsan

Abstract

|
|
High age-standardized mortality, low life expectancy and low healthy life expectancy indicate low health levels in Ulsan. The study conducted a survey of Ulsan citizens with the aim of collecting basic data to solve Ulsan's low health level. The survey was conducted on 600 adults over 20 years of age residing in Ulsan. The survey includes frequency of utilization by types of healthcare institution, satisfaction in five aspects by types of healthcare institution, and unmet needs and their reason by types of healthcare institution. As a result, 37.3% and 82.0% of the participants said they had experience using public and private healthcare institutions, respectively. In five aspects of the survey participants' satisfaction with each type of health care institution, more than three-quarters of respondents said they were satisfied with both public and private healthcare institutions. However, public healthcare institutions had the relatively lowest satisfaction level in terms of care/medical quality (satisfaction 87.9%) and private healthcare institutes had the relatively lowest satisfaction level in care/medical cost (satisfaction 76.6%). Unmet needs in health care by type of health care institution was investigated around 6.0% of public healthcare institutions (6.7%) and private healthcare institutions (5.3%). The results of this study are expected to be helpful in preparing plans to expand the use of public healthcare institutes in Ulsan, identifying vulnerable targets and areas for resolving unmet needs, and generating baselines for monitoring the satisfaction of health care institutions.
